Hi Carol, I have a newspaper from Katonah, New York dated January 23, 1947 where my great grandmother Ida Virginia Tompkins (Married last name was Hoffman)she married George W. Hoffman in 1887. In the article she states that she was a decendent of Daniel D. Tompkins. The original article was about being married 60 years. She also was born in Chappaqua, New York. They had four children, one of their childrens name was Ethel, Ethel Vail (maiden name was Hoffman) married Louis T. Vail. They were my mothers Aunt and Uncle. They were living in White Plains, New York back in 1947. All of my family, including myself were born in Westchester County, and Dutchess Counties. I too, have a hard time going back far enough in history, I have lived in Arizona for 37 years. If we are somehow related it would be nice to have more info. Time is getting short, because my mother is the last one of the Tompkins/Hoffman decent to remember names along this particular geneology line. Deb Cox.
P.S. My mother states there was a geneology book that her sister Virgina had from past relatives and she states that her Aunt Ethel Vail borrowed the book along time ago and never it gave it back, Ethel denied still having it. No one knows where it is now.
