Need help locating parents of John Tompkins b. 1799 VA who m. Nancy Burris abt. 1823 possibly KY she was b. 1804 NC, 1850 census for Jersey Co. IL list John 51 VA, Nancy 46 NC,
children;
Robert P. b.1824 KY m. 31 Jan 1850 Lucretia Tolman b.MA
William M. b. 1830 KY m.1864 OR Sarah
Frank M. b.1832 KY m.18June1863 OR Mary Jane Smith b.1844 OH
Minerva b.1836 IL m.25Feb1857 OR E.R.Button b. Michigan
John b.1838 IL
James b.1843 IL
This family crossed the OR Trail in 1852 from IL
Lived in The Dalles, OR operated a hotel there and the parents moved on to CA abt 1857 lived in the Shasta Valley and Siskiyou Co. CA where both John and Nancy died.
I've been looking for a long time, it's been hard since neither John or Nancy shows a middle name. I have more info on the Oregon Tompkins and pics but can't get further back from John and Nancy.
