Greetings from East Tennessee. Are you boys still working on this Tomlin family?

I see the London GRO at http://freebmd.rootsweb.com/cgi/search.pl has a marriage for Frederick Tomlin and Eliza Croft in the September quarter of 1849 in St. Albans, Hertfordshire.

On www.ancestry.com are some interesting entries in the 1841 Village Street, Kimpton, Hertfordshire census:

William Tomlin, 45, blacksmith, born in county
Mary Tomlin, 45, not born in county
Frederic Tomlin, 15, born in county
William Tomlin, 10, born in county
Caroline Tomlin, 10, born in county
Henry Tomlin, 9, born in county
Frances Tomlin, 6, born in county

Next door:

Thos Tomlin, 55, blacksmith, born in county
Frances Tomlin, 50, born in county
Milicent Tomlin, 20, born in county
Fredrick Tomlin, 13, born in county
Edmund Tomlin, 9, born in county
Frances Tomlin, 1, born in county

Here’s the same two families in 1851 Kimpton:
Thomas Tomlin, head, 68, blacksmith, Kimpton, Herts
Frances Tomlin, wife, 63, domestic duties, St Pauls Walden, Herts
Edmun Tomlin, son, 19, labourer, Kimpton, Herts
John Tomlin, relative, 11, scholar, Kimpton, Herts

Next door:

William Tomlin, head, 57, blacksmith, Kimpton, Herts
Mary Ann Tomlin, wife, 57, Thekston, Norfolk
Caroline Tomlin, dau, 22, Kimpton, Herts
Frances Tomlin, dau, 16, Kimpton, Herts
Arthur Tomlin, visitor, 5, Kimpton, Herts

1851 Wheathamstead, Hertfordshire census:
William Croft, head, 66, agr. lab., Wheathamstead, Herts

Eliza Tomlin, dau, 26, straw plaiter, Wheathamstead, Herts
Henry Tomlin, g-son, 1, Wheathamstead, Herts

1851 Codicote, Hertfordshire census:
Fredrick Tomlin, head, married, 25, coachman, Kimpton, Herts
No one else in the household.
This Frederick may have married an Emma Jane Lawrence in the March quarter of 1848 in Hatfield, Hertfordshire.

1851 Greenwich West, Greenwich, Kent census:
Daniel Rutter (age 56) household
Frederic Tomlin, visitor, 26, married, wood chopper, St Albans, Herts

This may be the Frederick Dawson/Lawson Tomlin and Mary Ann Cowper Lisk who married in the December quarter of 1853 in Kensington, Greater London.

1861 Codicote, Hertfordshire census:
Fredrick Tomlin, head, 37, coachman, Kimpton, Herts

1871 Hemel Hempstead, Hertfordshire census:
Mercy Tomlin, head, single, 28, dressmaker, Abbots Langley, Herts
Amos Tomlin, son, 4, scholar, Hemel Hampstead, Herts
Clement Tomlin, son, 2, Hemel Hampstead, Herts
In the 1851 Hemel Hampstead census, Mercy Tomlin, age 8, born Abbots Langley, is living with her parents William and Jane, and 6 siblings.

I see where some confusion can exist, with these Fredericks, and two possible sets of parents. Clement has a different parent than was mentioned.

Benjamin, I have researched Tomlins in Alton, Hampshire and in Wellinborough, Northamptonshire. Both families ended up in Toronto, Ontario, Canada.

Roland, I am researching my Laurence line from Robertsbridge, Sussex, and I am helping research Lawrences that were in Hitchin, Herts that I believe moved to Dartford, Kent. Have you come across any Lawrences in Hitchin?
