Robert Bridges, whose wife, Mary, was a granddaughter of Robert and Mary Washborne, the parents of Sara, the wife of Mr. Samuel Tomlins. To Lynn, came Mr. Thomas Willis of Thistleworth [Isleworth], school master, who married Mary, dau. of ___ Tomlins of Gloucestershire according to the pedigree of the Willis family. His wife, therefore, was probably a sister of Samuel, Thomas and Timothy Tomlyn. He had a grant of 500 acres in Lynn, which was afterwards sold to Isaac Hart by the Rev. John Knowles, of Watertown, and his wife, Elizabeth, the daughter of Mr. Willis. A reference to this pedigree, a portion of which I append. shows this match. I have taken it from the Visitation of Warwickshire, 1619. [pub. by Harl. vol. 12, p. 311]. Baptism of Sarah, d. of Samuel Tomlins, Curate of Hackney and Sarah, his wife, was on Aug. 16, 1632. Head Rights; ____ Burkitt, Wm. Eleans, George Blackgrove, ____ Browne, Miles Rich, Jane Willis, April 27, 1654. Book No. 3, page 222. The name of Tomlin has been locally prominent. Harrison B. Tomliln, Esq. of King Wm. Co VA, served for a number of years in the Virginia Assembly, first in the House of Delegates and latterly in the State Senate. R.A. Brock, Of Richmond, Virginia] I have no further info on this family. On line research at The Library of Virginia may reveal more. It is frustrating to me but here is what I offer to help access that site; http://www/va.lib.va.us/siteindex.htm Click on Chancery Suits Alphabetically listed. Click on Start Searching. Then select the county under locality [there is a drop down screen to select the county] Once you have selected, use the box titled surname. Ignore the Plantiff and Defendant choices. Type in your surname [if a difficult surname, try other spellings you know of if your first choice doesn't work] At least this works for me searching in Fauquier Co VA. If anyone follows my instructions and find they do not work for you and finds a way on their own, PLEASE POST the new instuctions for others. I am not real computer literate. Just enough to get where I need to go. Ginny Notify Administrator about this message?
