My private hobby is researching the family history/ genealogy of TOMES families and I live in Somerset in South West England. I would be fairly sure that you belong to a TOMES family whose pedigree can be traced back to the early 1800s in Gloucester City, England. In about 1852, James TOMES of that family, his wife Charlotte PHIPPS and their children emigrated to Canada, most probably to the general Hamilton area in Ontario (family members later moved on to Detroit). One of their children was Albert George TOMES (born 9 Aug 1851, 13 Princes St, Gloucester). He married a Jane F. PRICE (she was born 5 Feb 1855, Hamilton, Wentworth, Ontario) and died 17 Aug 1910, Terre Haute, Vigo, Indiana. The couple had 5 children that I know of, 3 marrying in Terre Haute & one buried there. The eldest child, James Edward, had three children, Albert, George & Imogene & Albert is recorded as also born in Terre Haute, on 15 Jun 1899. I have though no family details beyond that, but perhaps you fit in somewhere here? It would be nice to make contact. Yours, Ian Tomes.
