I was actually searching for Gerald Foster Tomas as a marriage option in Liverpool, unfortunately Tomas and Liverpool don't get a mention. However, a long shot for you.

There is a Royal Artillery battery with the honour title 'Tomb's. He would probably have been a battery commander. I haven't checked but there's a good chance it dates from the Indian Mutiny in 1858.
