In the April 2004 issue of "Carolina Trees & Branches" is an article on the death of Rebecca Tomes:
"Rebecca Nixon was born August 11, 1715, the eldest daughter of Zacharia and Elizabeth (Symons) Nixon. In January 1735, she married Francis Tomes, who lived on a farm in Old Neck north of Perquimans River. A 'valuable Friend,' she bacame a minister of the Quaker monthly meeting in Perquimans in 1742."
She accompanied some people on a trip to Bath, NC, and the article mentions mishaps on the trip which caused her death. She was back in Perquimans for burial "exactly two weeks after she had begun her impromptu missionary journey." (Francis and Rebecca had children, but they are not named in the article.)
I am not a member of the family; just entering information.
