Thank you so much for your reply. I have, indeed, contacted descendants in this line, and have gotten much valuable information from them, as well as the Tombaugh information that is available online. There is a wealth of valuable info on the Tombaugh site that was put up to make accessible years' worth of local news articles. And Wendell Tombaugh also has an autobiography online there, as well.
For his part, Judge Wendell has made a huge contribution to genealogy in general, and in particular to my efforts in researching this book, with his re-publication of all the news from Fulton County for a number of years. Through his efforts, I have located dozens of pertinent news items that further enrich the story of my g-g-grandfather's life, which came to a close in Indiana.
The project surrounding the editing of my book is almost surely going to be the project of my lifetime. I want to be remembered as having done it as thoroughly as possible. Finding whatever information exists concerning the structures on which my g-g-grandfather worked as a carpenter, is a small but very important part of telling his life story. The original Tombaugh barn was one of those structures, and it was something of a keystone career accomplishment, well known in the area as a very large and well-constructed barn.
Unfortunately, that barn was destroyed by fire, and there are apparently no photos of it in existence.
