Jonas Tolman, born 9 June 1744, married Mary Pierce, 30 Nov 1766. She died 16 May 1811. Jonas died 18 Feb 1815.
Jonas was the son of Jonas and Susannah BIRD TOLMAN. Their other children were: (1) Sarah, b.9 Apr 1734, d. 11 Feb 1743, (2) Susannah, b. 13 July 1736, m. Ezekiel Leeds, 31 July 1755, (3) James. b. 9 July 1742, d. 16 Apr 1743.
Jonas (b. 16 Jan 1709-10, married 16 Nov 1732, died 4 March 1752. Susannah Bird Tolman died 18 Aug 1768)was the son of Daniel and Sarah HUMPHREYS TOLMAN. Daniel owned four houses as appears by his inventory. One was at the waterside, on land now owned by heirs of Josepjh Tolman. Another given by him to his son Daniel was on the corner of Ashmont street and Dorchester avenue; the old well still remains in front of this house. The third house he gave to his son Jonas. This was situated on land about one hundred feet south of Cheever Newhalls's house. The fourth house, given to his son, Ebenezer, is till standing, on what is now Adams street. [my note, above was written about 1860]
Daniel (b. 1 May 1679, m. 16 Apr 1708, died 30 Apr 1761. Sarah died 14 June 1774, aged 88 yrs) was the son of Thomas and Elizbeth JOHNSON TOLMAN.
Thomas b.. 1633. His wife was the daughter of Richard JOHNSON of Lynn, MA. They married 4 Nov 1654. They were admitted into the Dorchester church 17 May 1674. He was made a freeman in 1678. His house stood about 100 feet from Ashmont street in Tolman's land. He died 12 Sept, 1718, age 85/ Elizabeth died 15 Dec 1726.
Thomas (b. 1633) was the son of Thomas Tolman, born in England in 1608 or 09. There is a tradition in the family that he came to Dorchester, MA, with the first settlers in the ship "Mary & John", in 1690, and that he owned land extending from the seaside to Dedham line. He was the owner of lands, also, in what is now Canton, Stoughton, and Sharon. The first mention of him, on the Dorchester town Records, is under date of 31 Oct 1639, as followS: "It is ordered that Goodman Tolman's houses be appointed for the receiving any goods that shall be brought in whereof the owner is not known." His name is appended to the Church Covenant, made in 1636; freeman 13 May 1640, He located nera "Pine Neck," now "Port Norfolk," his house having ttood within one hundred feet of Pine Neck Creek, on the west side and on the north side within about two hundred feet, the creek forming there an elbow shape. In 1852, the Old Colony Railroad Corporation removed the most of the cellar once belonging to the house. The land remaining is in possession of one of the branches of the family. The house in which his son Thomas afterwards lived, between what is now Ashmont and Washington streets, was probably built by him. Some of his descendants now own and reside on land that belonged to him. It has remained ever since in the family. The first wife of Thomas was Sarah; his second wife was Katherine, who died 7 Nov 1677. He died 8 June 1690, in his 82nd year.
