Please help me analyze the census and marriage records! (Joseph W. Todd)
I am looking at the family of Joseph W. Todd (who was probably the son of John and Mary Todd of Putnam County GA) and wife, Hester Parker.
Joseph is said to have been born 9 Sept 1788.I haven't confirmed that information.
The first census record available for him is 1820, Wilkes County GA.It shows males 100010 and females 00100.I am assuming that the males were Anderson and Joseph, and the female was Hester.
The 1830 census record shows males 1101001010 and females 1111010000.I'm assuming that the males were Harvey, George, Anderson, Joseph, and Unknown1.The females get a little tricky.I'm thinking Rhoda, Unknown2, Cornelia, Unknown3, and Hester.
The 1840 census record shows males 1011000100 and females 1010101000.I have the males tagged as Unknown4, Harvey, George, and Joseph.Females:Unknown5, Rhoda, Unknown3, and Hester.Anderson had married in 1834 and Cornelia had married in 1838.
Now, for the Unknowns.
Unknown1 is a male in his 60s in 1830.He disappears by 1840.Could this be Hester's father?
Unknown2 is a female between 5-9 in 1830.She disappears before 1840.There are several female Todds in the marriage records.Does anyone have any idea who this was?
Unknown3 is a female between 15-19 in 1830 and 20-29 in 1840.Again, I have browsed the marriage records, and there are several possibilities.
Unknown4 was a male under 5 yrs in 1840.There is a Benjamin Todd who shows up in the marriage records.Could this be him?
Unknown5 is a female under 5 yrs in 1840.There is a Harriett Todd who shows up in the marriage records.Could this be her?
Finally, in the 1850 census, Rhoda living with her parents. Her three children (Henry 8, L. A. 7, and Augustus 4--all born in GA) are with her, and they all appear to have the last name Bauer.A check of the GA marriage records finds her marrying Smith Reese in 1841 (she would have been 14 yrs old!).I find no marriage record for a Bauer. But if Henry was 8 in 1850, he must have been born in 1842, so what happened?
If anyone has a better handle on this family, I would love to hear from you.BTW, I am a descendent though Cornelia's line.
