Good evening. I am a descendant of Owen Todd that you refer to. Though I am fairly sure that my ancestor is not the father to Abbott Levi Todd (born listed from 1800 to 1820) I have also found some information that I am persuing as to find his possible parentage in our Todd family. I have heard that there was DNA testing done on this family line. This could be conclusive or not, I am not an expert on DNA tests. However I consider this at least a clue.
I have found a Scottish Todd, Mary Ann Todd Lincoln- related family group -- that I am tracing that uses the name Abbott in their naming patterns. There is an Anne Elizabeth Abbot How listed born after 1826, whose mother was Letitia Hammil (How) whose mother was Isabella Todd (Hammil) whose father was Colonel Andrew Todd, Revolutionary War Hero from our family.
Anyone familiar with this Todd line's naming patterns knows how often surnames end up as middle or even possibly first names in this family. My own 2great grandmother, listed on page 267 of "Todd Family Based on the Ms. of Emily Todd Helm," in Kittochtinny, Isabella Dumont Stevens (Clark) was named for her Aunt Isabella Ramsey (Ramsey is surname of Paxton family intermarriage Isabell's mother's maiden name) Isabella Ramsey Todd (Dumont) was a daughter of Owen Todd (the senior). Abraham Dumont was the uncle that my 2great granndma's Isabella was named for when she was named as Isabella Dumont Stevens.(mother Eliza-Jane Todd (Stevens) page 266 of Todd Family chapter(s) of Kittochtinny.
So it makes sense to persue the unusual name and see if you find it somewhere in the Toddfamily line you are seeking. I am using the Emily Todd Helm book for this and so far I was only able to come up with the one other mention of the name "Abbot(t)" and that was on pages 378 & 379 CXLIV-- LETITIA HAMMIL. That is when searching for the elusive Abbot Levi Todd.
However I feel that is the best clue that I have found yet on who this Abbott Levi might be, if he is from our family line.
As for my ancestor Owen Todd, Pages 93 and 94 from The Kittochtinny Magazine, A Tentative Record of Local History and Genealogy West of the Susquehanna," by Emily Todd Helm (half sister to Mary Lincoln) lists Owen (the senior) Todd with 12 children by two different wives. The second wife Maria Jane Paxton (married in Rockbridge County Virginia before 1791) had 11 of those children.
The story that Todd left his wife from an unhappy marriage does not bode well with having 11 children with that same unsuitable spouse sorry to say. Nor the story that he left Indiana for a distant state when a photo of his gravestone can be found listed in Switzerland County, Vevay Cemetery at the
However, I am willing to believe that Abbott is for real and one of our family. Still trying to find where he fits it, but that is where I am at right now. Good luck to everyone on these projects. I know how it feels to be lost in this kind of thing!!
