I'm guessing here BUT.....
Also living close to William H. Todd in Hardeman County in 1850 is a gal who could be his
sister--Eliza Todd HOLLAND
(born c1820 in NC per 1850 census records).
See page 168 of the 1850 Hardeman Co TN Census. The household of William H. TODD appears on lines 8-13 and his poss. sister's family (Household of H. H. Holland) appears on lines 14-19.
Eliza Todd HOLLAND is my GGGGrandmother.
My direct line is:
(Me) Kathy L. Rhodes
Hollis N. Rhodes + Marian Ann Billings
Roscoe Reid Rhodes + Nina Slaten
James "Jim" Henry Rhodes + Zula Belk
James Richard Rhodes + Buena Vista Holland
H. H. Holland + Eliza Todd
Can you possibly confirm that I've guessed correctly?
I have traced Eliza (Todd) Holland's family thru census records as follows:
1850 Hardeman TN Pg 168
1860 - District 10 Saulsbury Hardeman TN pg204
indexed on Ancestry.com under H H Hallora
(Family story goes like this:Family migrates to AR; H. H. reportedly dies there on 5 Aug 1865 of a fever in Cotton Plant Arkansas.Suppposedly H. H. Holland was buying a farm, Court House burned, and the story was "BUSHWACKERS" came and took the farm from his widow--Eliza then returns to Hardeman)
1870 Hardeman TN District 10 Bolivar pg231
Indexed on Ancestry.com under E L Holimon
1880 Hardeman TN ED59 Pg 488D
indexed under name Elizar Holley living in hh of William
Ferguson (son-in-law) and dau. Udora [aka Eudora, Dora] Holland Ferguson.
1900 Hardeman TN SD10, ED142, sheet 10a, Lines 12 thru 21
again in hh of Will Ferguson
I assume that Eliza died sometime after this census as she does not appear in her daughter's household in the 1910 census below:
In 1910 Shelby Co TN ED:92 Sheet:11BPage 198B
Eudora Holland and husband William Ferguson migrate to Shelby Co TN (where her sister Buena Vista Holland Rhodes - my direct ancestor) has gone earlier.
There is a 'little' support for the family story in the Civil War Pension Application of Buena Vista Holland Rhodes; she says she was wed in St. Francis Co AR (but no date is given and no marriage cert. is attached to the pension application). Her husband James Richard Rhodes, though from Tippah Co MS, did serve in the 32nd AR Infantry and signed up for this unit in Cotton Plant AR) but in 1870 James and Buena Vista also return to Hardeman Co TN (See 1870 Hardeman TN District 10 Boliar Pg 231 under J R Rodes),so I've no doubt that the family did migrate to AR briefly but have found nothing else to support the bushwacker story.
At any rate the info you have posted in your Rootsweb Worldconnect Gedcom on Eliza Todd's birthdate meshes with mine (all but the place that is) so I'm curious about your source for her place of birth as well as your source for her death date and place of burial.Would you mind sharing your sources with me?
I have another few tidbits (unsubstantiated family stories that you might find interesting).
Please let me know if you think I'm on the right "track" here!
