Sue, I am sorry this was not forwarded to me and did not find it until a yr. and a half later.I have read this book, many yrs. ago, and it was the most informative I have found on the family tree of Mary Todd Lincoln.I have read most of the books I have found on both her and Abraham. From one of the sources, I found a child listed of Robert Smith Todd b. 1791, as Lizzie Humphreys Todd b. 1818. Haven't been able to place her though. If she was daughter of Elizabeth Humphreys, she would have to have been Robert's step-daughter, since his first wife, Eliza Ann Parker didn't die until 1825.I'm also not positive who the mother was of Samuel Todd.He was supp. born abt 1820.If he is son of Betsy, his birth date would be wrong - as again, Eliza didn't die until 1825.Do you know who the mother of Robert Parker Todd was, who died young, and who the mother of Robert Smith Todd was, who also died young? I did not have Elodie Breck Todd or Katherine Bodley Todd.
It is sad that so much wrong information has been put out there for searchers of this line.I know I have put out some myself, that was given to me wrong by other family members. One of the best known sources, in Salt Lake City, listed Mary Todd and Abraham Lincoln as having 10 children, including a girl, Mary, b. abt 1845.I think most of them are just duplicates of names with different birth and death dates. I think they should have proof before they can change any family records.
Robert's father was Levi Todd.I am descended from Levi's brother, Owen Todd, to Owen Kentucky Todd, to Susannah Todd (my grt. grt. grandmother). The Todds were certainly split during the Civil War.Owen Kentucky Todd was a Union man, and was killed by the Union as he was defending his sons Owen Warren Todd and Elijah Smith Todd, in Barry Co. MO, by the company they were members of.I believe there was a dance in town, and they went to visit their father, where they stacked their arms.Susannah's husband, Isaac Johnson was killed in a battle S. of Springfield, MO.Three of the Johnson brothers married three of the Todd sisters.
I have had a battle for yrs. over the Susannah Todd name. There were five in this area at same time, and all about same age.Two of them marr. Johnsons, who wern't related. One was my grt. grt. grandmother (father's side), and two were on my mother's side of the family.People will argue with me because it's on a genealogy site, that my mother's Todd was related to Mary Todd Lincoln, when she wasn't.Again, people submitting wrong information.Thank you again for helping me to sort out the children of Robert's family.
