Julia - I am also working the same Todd family of Georgia that you and Bruce are. One possible source of confusion is that there were two John Todds in the same area and time-frame. The first is the John Todd of Putnam County who left a will dated 7 August 1815 that names his wife as Mary and children as William, James, Joseph, John, Felix, Adam, Elizabeth, Sally, and Maria Mahala. The second John Todd was in nearby Wilkes County and who died two or three years earlier but did not leave a will. But page 95 of Wilkes County Deed Book EEE records on 5 February 1813 a transaction in which Elizabeth, widow of John Todd, deceased, late of Wilkes Co., and children James, John, Elizabeth, William and Margaret and (a son-in-law) John Hammock sold 268 acres of land which the said John Todd, deceased, died possessed of, to Joseph Todd, one of the legatees. Clearly these are two different families but with several children having the same given names. Hence the possible confusion. If your James Todd is not the son of John and Mary of Putnam County, he may be the son of John and Elizabeth of Wilkes County. My interest in these two families is that my great-great-grandfather married a Sarah Todd, daughter of John and Elizabeth Todd of Georgia. I have established that this Sarah Todd married 1st a Levi M. Stanford in Putnam County in 1821 but I can not prove if this Sarah is the daughter of John and Mary, who had a daughter Sally (Sarahs were often called Sally during that era), or the daughter of John and Elizabeth but whose name was not recorded in the deed because she was a minor at that time. Would greatly appreciate any information that you have regarding these two families. Thanks! Richard
