I have no idea if my great-grandparents from Ireland had siblings or who they might have immigrated with, or where in Ireland they were born. James Caufield (or Canfield) Logan, born about 1844 to _?_ Logan and Mary Caufield (or Canfield) and a new idea has risen that he might have been from Co. Donegal since on a more recent US census his place of birth is "free Ireland" and since many Logan's come from the northern counties. Any suggestions? I am looking for information on my great grandparents who came from Ireland, married and died in Philadelphia, PA, USA. All the information that I can find on them only states "Ireland" with no additional city, county, town. I would love to find out where, and exactly when, they were born. I am on this quest for my mother who has been ill for the last couple of years and now tells me it would be her dream to get Irish citizenship. She went there many years ago and often tells how great it was. Currently she is getting worse and has the beginnings of serious memory loss. She has stated that she will be forgotten when she is gone, just like she has forgotten all of her family history. Her neuropsychologists says that having a pedigree chart and other information would be supportive on her bad days when she is very confused. James Caufield (or Canfield) Logan, born about 1844 to _?_ Logan and Mary Caufield (or Canfield), don't know of any siblings. He appears in the USA census of 1900, 1910, 1920 married Mary Margaret Tobin on 20 Nov 1884, Philadelphia, Roman Catholic--Sts Peter and Paul Basilica has no additional info died 25 Feb 1926, Philadelphia, PA, buried in Holy Cross Cemetery, Yeadon, PA (just outside Philly)They had three sons and a daughter (Thomas Philip Logan b. 1886-- Philip Neri Logan b.1892-- , James Canfield Logan, Jr b. 1890--, Margaret Logan Hood b.1888) The initial information is that Mary Margaret Tobin was born ca. 1867, possibly in Co. Kilkenny (according to family stories). The only other family story I have says she was born in Knock, Ireland. Mary Margaret Tobin emigrated to the US in 1881, where she married James Caufield (Canfield?) Logan on 20th November 1884. Mary Margaret Logan (nee Tobin) died on 16th November 1918 in Philadelphia, PA. Mary Margaret's death certificate records her mother as Mary and her father as D_____ or P___. She might have been born out of wedlock because her mother's last name looks like it could be "Tobin" but the father's last name doesn't. Death record is very hard to read but I would be happy to send a copy. Gravestone inscription (only has name and dates) and can't find newspaper obituary for Mary Margaret Logan (nee Tobin) or James Caufield (Canfield?) Logan. A U.S. civil or church marriage record for Mary Margaret Tobin and James Caufield Logan on 20th November 1884. Civil and Church records just say "Ireland." No luck with immigration records through NARA with the dates listed on the census--Mary Margaret Tobin listed immigration as 1881 and James C Logan listed 1860 and 1864 on two different census. They rented so I can't find land/tax records. Do you know if there is anyway to post (in a newspaper or online) in Ireland for a request of information? Then I could maybe request descendants of my great grandparents and when they came to Philly, and/or, if an Alice Kennedy, daughter of Alice Cudahy, could get in touch with me. Alice Kennedy is the only (possible) living relative I know of in Ireland. How might that be done? Suggestions on how to proceed with my search? I would be happy to pay you for your work or make a donation to a charity of your choice. Thank you in advance for any help.
