Theodore & Fanny Tobias were members of Sha'arai Shomayim (Gates of Heaven) in Mobile AL. This temple was organized in the 1840's in Mobile & most of the early members were German speaking. They have burials in the Old Hebrew Section of Magnolia Cemetery & the newer Sha'arai Shomayim Cemetery across the street. This temple is now called Spring Hill Temple.
They have the following records:
Benjamin Tobias, b 19 March 1869, son of Theo & Fanny Tobias
Emma Tobias m Sigmand Seelig, 14 Jul 1873
There is a Fanny Tobias who m Julius Pake in 1858 in Mobile. The Pakes were members of the same congregation, although I can find nothing on Julius. I did find a Sigfried Pake & Rebecca Unger. Sigfried owned S Pake & Bro variety store in Mobile in 1855. My guess us that Julius was Sigfried's brother & Fanny was Theodore's sister.
There is also Adolph Proskauer & Julia A Koch in the records. He was b 11 Feb 1838 Prussia, d 13 Dec 1900 Mobile.
Perhaps Fanny's maiden name was Proskauer & she was a sister to Adolph. Putcher could be interpretation of Proskauer by a marraige clerk not used to German.
I suggest you write Robert Zietz, Archivist of Spring Hill Temple, 1769 Spring Hill Ave, Mobile AL 36607.
