I am researching Tobias in Ohio. I have a strange situation also. My great grandmother was Cora Tobias. I think her father was Sidney Tobias. I got that from the 1880 census.
Cora died when my grandmother (Florence), born in 1884,was small and Cora's sister, Florence(Flora on the census) and her husband, William Kellogg adopted her. My grandmother married Harry Forrest Gardner and they had my father, Edward Kenneth Gardner. I was born in 1945, in Astabula, and I know that they were still living there in 1956 as my grandfather died there in 1956. There has to be a connection there somewhere. Have you looked at the Daniel Tobias Home Page in Family Tree Maker on the internet? You may get some information from that.
