I am writing a collective biogrpahy of the 175 individuals who headed up neighborhood branch libraries for the first 50 years of the New York Public Library system, 1901-1950.
Two of them are Ellen H. Tobey and Lillian Q. Tobey, who I assume are sisters. Ellen is the daughter of Enoch and Mary Tobey. Both Tobey's started to work in the NY Free Circulating Library in 1897. Ellen resigned in 1911 to be married. Lillian resigned in 1919.
I have very few clues about them and would be grateful if anyone has further information on either or both.
