My analysis is as follows:
Thomas Tobey(1) came to Sandwich between 1640 and 1650, with at least two children: Thomas(2) and Ruth.
On November 16, 1650, Thomas (2) married Martha Knott, the daughter of George Knott (deceased) and his wife "Widow" Knott. On the same date, Ruth Tobey, whom I suggest without compelling authority is the sister of Thomas(2), married William Swift, Jr.(A double wedding featuring the marriages of a brother and sister to their respective spouses).
This scenario would make it reasonable for William Swift, Jr., whose family was large and seemingly very prosperous, to make a donation on behalf of his Father-in-law, Thomas (1).It would also make sense that Thomas (2), now married to Martha Knott for five years, and himself a father, would make a smaller donation.
This all must be treated as speculation, since the only document known to me tosupport the above thesis is that single town meeting record.
Any further documentation that either supports or rebuts my conclusions, would be greatly appreciated.
