According to a court case, 'Levisey Smith v. Charles Smith', Lavisa KEESEE and her husband Charles SMITH had seperated by 1839, after 46 years of marriage and eight children (of whom five were still living). Lavisa alleged that Charles had abandoned her, and that he was planning to abscomb to Arkansas with several slaves her father had willed to her. Charles answered that he had planned to live his life with her, but that Lavisa's manner had changed towards him due to reasons too painful to reveal in the court document, and she had chosen to sever ties with him. The document also states that after their marriage, Lavisa and Charles had moved from Virginia to South Carolina (where their daughter, my ancestress Polly HUDSON was born) and then to Tennessee.
Evidently, Lavisa and Charles did not reconcile. She left a will in 1842 in Wilson co., TN after which time I presume she died. Charles moved to Missouri with one of their sons, Champ SMITH, and died there in 1850.
