Hi Karen,
The Turner family I am researching are much before 1920, but were in Wilson County very early, and the family I have information on went to Humphreys County by 1817. However, I do not know if the others stayed in Wilson Co. or not. Anyhow, there is a possibility that your William may have descended from one of the following.

William Turner, born in NC, served in Continental Army, got a land grant March 2, 1790 for his services. His estate was settled in Wilson County in 1815. He married Frances and had the following children:

Edmund Turner born 8 Oct 1793.
Willie Turner born 14 Apr 1796 (went to Humphreys Co by 1817).
Betsy Turner born 17 May 1798.
William Turner born 25 July 1800.
Robert Turner born 25 Aug 1802.
James G. Turner born 1 Sep 1804.
Thomas and Stephen Turner born 15 July 1809.
Stephen B. Turner born 11 Nov 1810.
James E. Turner born 13 Apr 1806.

I haven't researched any of these except Willie. If I find any connection with your William, I'll let you know. And if you find your William descended from any of these, please email me or post it. Thanks, and good luck.
