I have looked for years of the parents of John Jesse Haley; born in Tn. June 1, 1831, and Allen Haley, his brother. The two was orpans. In 1861 John Jesse Haley married Eliza Ellis at Egypt, Ms. Bought land and raised their children 3 mi. from Egypt in a town called Gunntown, Ms. it's south east corner of Chickasaw Co., Ms. In the 90s they moved to Houlka, Ms.; north east of Chickasaw Co. John farmed 240 acres, and hand dug wells in the winter. In Feb. 7, 1895 died; John had a job digging a well close to his old homeplace. The weather was bad, he caught pneumonia-and died, family in the area buried him at a family cemetery called Gunntown Cemetery. Snow was deep and it was days until his wife and children found of his death, his grave was never moved. John's brother Allen Haley had moved father south to West Point, Ms., but the family had contact for years. I know about anything about the Haley's in Tennessee, some in Georgia, Alabama, and Mississippi, Virginia, N.Carolina from 1900 back. I have never checked the orphan list yet, but I can't find there parents. The only Jesse/Allen names used in the family was early around Rockdale, Tn. (Eagleville, Tn. area) and White Co., Tn. I'm almost figured it was around Rockdale to Nolensville, Tn.; but no proof. I have a cousin in Baton Rouge, La.; and searched for 60 yrs., and she is like me, born around Rockdale/but no proof. If you can help me solve this. I'd be so greatful! Gerald Barnell Fowler
