Lewis Taylor Jones (b~1779 d~1858) Williamson County
Posted by: Paul Ogle (ID *****0636) Date: April 16, 2003 at 09:18:59
  of 1165

I am looking for any information on the marriages (and parents) of a
Lewis Taylor Jones, Sr. who lived in Williamson County, TN. He was
born about 1779 (Probably in VA) and died before 5/3/1858 in TN (when
his estate was sold). His last wife was a Martha G. (Vowell) whom he
married on 4/28/1848, but later divorced. She was formally married to a
John Vowell. It would be very helpful to determine her maiden name
(probably began with a G).

However, Lewis Taylor Jones was initially married to another woman - one
Meacham record mentioned a Martha Pa?nes, however I have not been able
to find
any additional evidence of this in my research. Neither have I been
able to associate Lewis Taylor Jones with any siblings or parents.

I believe he would likely have been married initially about 1800, but
that is just an educated guess, based on his first child's birth in
1802. There is a gap of about 10 years (based on census data) between
the first 2 children, so possibly could have had 3 wives <?>...

His son Barnett Jones lived in Hickman County, and an old note in a
daughter's family bible states that Barnett came to TN when he was 6
which would have been about 1817.

There is some evidence that his mother
could be an Sarah Bonney, married to a Taylor Jones of the
Revolutionary war, however we have not had substantial proof of this as
yet.

So, LTJ first marriage was probably in
VA. 1790-1810 VA censuses would be a good place to search, and 1820
forward in TN. There were some vague references in my research about
his possibly going through TN to Mississippi with another brother,
before returning to TN early in 1800's but I have nothing specific on
this.

I am a descendant of C. O. Jones Sr. (1823), another son who lived in
Williamson County.

I have exhausted all avenues I am aware of in trying to find LTJs
parents/siblings. Any help anyone could provide would be most
appreciated.
