Hi Jane, I found 4 Hall families in Williamson County, TN 1840 census, and one of the John Hall's does have a 15 or so year old girl in the home....
John Hall...01000001 / 00101001...District 23
The other Hall's in District 23 are...
John Hall...00000000001 / 0000000001 ...(they could possibly be parents of the first John)
Anderson Hall...120001 / 002101...(possibly a brother of the first John)
There are 2 more Hall families in Wmsn. Co. in 1840, I don't have a District for them, only a page number....
Richard Hall...000120001 / 00001001...pg.32
Thomas E. Hall...111011 / 020001001...pg.31
I sincerely hope this can help you...God bless..Donnasue
...sorry I can't help you right now with Russell line, I only have census through the Ma's...maybe I can send info later...Dsue
