John, I am a descendant of Jacob Martin (12 Oct 1772 NC - 12 Jan 1860 Warren Co TN) through my mother. I descend from the Reed family through my father. David Reed is on the 1812 Warren County TN tax list, (Samuel Colville's list). According to the Thomas Barnes Papers, TN State Library & Archives, Mary Stiles married a Reed and had two children by him (Mariah and Sarah "Sally"). I previously cited the article in the White County TN newspaper of 1823 (suit re Robert Collier being the stepfather of Mariah and Sarah "Sally" Reed, etc., naming heirs of John Reed who died ca 1818 in Warren Co TN). After the death of her Reed husband, Mary (Stiles) Reed had married Robert Collier sometime probably between 1814 and 1818. 1850 Warren Co TN census: #206 Robert Collier 63 NC Mary 55 NC Mary M. 19 TN John 17 TN #208 Martha [Mariah] Medley 39 TN Sarah M. 18 TN George 15 TN John 14 TN William 11 TN David 8 MO Greenville 6 MO Mariah Reed married Greenville Medley in Warren Co TN and they later moved to Jefferson County MO (reflected in the above Warren Co TN census in that the last two children were born in MO.) Greenville died in MO and Mariah and the children came back to Warren Co TN. Sarah Melvina Medley (14 May 1832 - 23 Aug 1920) married Ozias Denton (7 Feb 1839 - 16 Jan 1933). Ozias and Sarah Melvina (Medley) Denton had a son, Green V. Denton. One of Green V. Denton's children was Tabitha Mariah Denton. Tabitha Mariah was the mother of my grandmother, Minnie. Minnie was born in 1910 and died in 2007. She and her parents lived with Ozias and Sarah Melvina for a time. As you can tell, I have no concrete evidence that the Reed Mary Stiles was married to was David, but clues point in that direction: Naming patterns (Mariah named a son David); David does not show up in later records (I'm assuming he died, making Mary a widow); David is the right age to be John Reed's son; David dies before his father John does (That assumption is based on the fact that Mary's Reed children are born in 1811 and 1814, and Mary and Robert Collier's children are born in 1818 and 1820). The most compelling is Robert Collier's law suit on behalf of his step-daughter's Mariah and Sarah Reed, re John Reed's estate. Betty Notify Administrator about this message?
