My great great grandfather owned a large farm on which the Battle of Murfreesboro was fought; accounts of the battle describe the brick home which was destroyed in the battle. Reportedly he refused to renounce the cause of the Confederacy and as a result all or most of his property was conscripted by the US and made into the Stones River national cemetery.
I also have information on his descendants through his second wife Susan B. Johns. He and his second wife had a daughter, Margaret Henderson Cowan Wade Allen, who married my great grandfather, John J. Allen. Margaret was first married to Julius C. Wade and inherited his farm after his death after the Civil War; they had no children. She and John J. Allen had a son, my grandfather, John Thomas (Tom) Allen. Tom Allen married my grandmother Janie Belle Swain and they had 3 children, 2 daughters and a son who became my father, John Thomas Allen.
