Since this query is almost 3 years old I don't know if you still need info or not but if so I can probably help. My GGGG GM was Nancy R. James. She married William Phillips in 1795 in Brunswick Co., VA. He died in 1805 and Nancy James Phillips and her children moved to Rutherford Co.,TN smetime after the 1810 Census but before 1818 as she purchased land there in June 1818. I had suspected that she migrated with some Phillips kin but just found out this past week that her father Cary James and several of her sibliongs also went to Rutherford Co. abou the same time. I found numerous records this week in the Rutherford Co. Court Records books. Carey James apparently was well educated and may have even been an attaorney as I found several where he acted as Administrator for an estate and on one "Widows Allowancwe" petition granting he was listed as one of three Commissioners. In Record book 6, pg 194 as Follows: "Guardian return- William James. Recorded 31 March, 1826. Guardian: Francis Hancock Heir: Caroline M. Hancock
Admins: Allen James, Carey James
Grndmother of Heir: Sarah Hancock and husband B. Hancock (deceased)"
You can contact me if I can be of any further help.
p.s. You can find the James in the 1810 Census in Brunswick Co., VA Census in the Merherrin Parish. Rex Phillips - Dallas
