Thompsons in Rutherford County, early 1800s

I'm looking for two THOMPSON lines who were in Rutherford County, Tennessee in the early 1800s.

My John THOMPSON was born in 1814, according to his tombstone. In Rutherford County, Tennessee in October 1836, he married Rebecca THOMPSON. She was born in 1815, also according to her tombstone, and on both the 1850 & 1860 census enumerations, she gave her birthplace as Kentucky. John and Rebecca are enumerated on the 1840 census for Rutherford County with two small daughters.

By 1850, John & Rebecca were in Marion County, Alabama with their children. In 1860, they were enumerated in Pickens County, Alabama.

Rebecca died in 1867, and John in 1868. They are buried in the Fellowship Cemetery in Pickens County, Alabama.

I do not know if John and Rebecca were cousins, or if it was just coincidence that both were THOMPSONs. Does anyone have any information on who their parents might have been? For reference (in case they used family names) their children were:

Mary E., b. 1836, married James HAMMOND in Alabama
Martha J., b. abt. 1840, married F. M. BLAIR
Emma or Emeline Rhoda, b. 1843, married G.T. KERR
Powell, b. 1845
Susan, b. 1847
Julia, b. 1855, never married

Thank you!
