Not related, just did some lookups for you

It would appear from the following records that a Benjamin Hancock might have been
Connected to a SARAH Hancock (mother???)
(see item 3, under “Abstracts of Records Books” section below).

Also, in Rutherford Co. TN, there was a FRANCIS Hancock who is connected to this Sarah Hancock, and a granddaughter of Sarah’s named Caroline Hancock Scales.
Francis Hancock was born in VA. See below.

Benjamin may also be connected to a ROBERT Hancock who was in Rutherford Co. from at least 1807 thru 1812

1820 Census of Rutherford Co. TN, only 2 Hancock households
Hancock, Benjamin
Males: 2 under age 10, 1 age 26 to 45
Females: 2 under age 10, 1 age 26 to 45
No Slaves

Hancock, Francis
Males: 1 under age 10, 1 age 26 to 45
Females: 1 age 10 to 16, 1 age 16 to 26, 1 over age 45
(looks like a mother, over age 45, was living with him)
Slaves: He owned 15 Slaves

From the book, “Rutherford Co. TN abstracts of Record Books 1 – 7, 1803-1829”
(Items that mention Benjamin or B. Hancock)

1. Record Book 1, pages 140-141
BENJAMIN HANCOCK, ROBERT HANCOCK and others were Witnesses December 7, 1812 to the Certificate of Freedom of Henry Jackson, a free man of color, age 23, slave of Joseph Boyers, originally of VA. Recorded Dec 22, 1812

Note: Robert Hancock is on the 1810 census of Rutherford Co., as age 26 to 44, but not the 1820 census of Rutherford Co.

1. You can order full copies of the abstracted records noted above, and Francis Hancock’s Probate records, from the Rutherford Co. TN Archives for only 50 cents per page. To email a record request, go to their web site at

2. The book of Abstracted Records for the years 1802-1829 contains several more entries that mention the name Francis Hancock. If you want to see these other abstracts, then email me off line at:

QUESTION – Do you have a copy of the Marriage Record and BOND of Benjamin Hancock and Caroline Ready?
Who was the Bondsman and who were the witnesses????
If you don’t have a copy, suggest you request one from the Rutherford Co. Archives.

Hope something above helps you in some way.
