States: Tennessee: Robertson
I have been searching for my grt grt grandfather, Stephen Chapman's parents for some time now (not to mention other family members and distant relatives with this common ancestor searching as well ). Stephen Chapman was born in either Robertson Co., Tn or Logan Co., Ky in abt 1800. A distant cousin in Illinois has many old papers and records from the family's past. Their are records of land sales in Logan Co, Ky by Stephen Chapman in 1821. This is when he moved to Boone Co, Mo. He also witnessed land transactions of a Benjamin Chapman, believed to be his brother (possibly twins, there are twins in every generation of my family except Stephen's siblings) whom also moved to Missouri in abt 1833. It is also believed they had a brother named George. My ancestor ended up in Greene Co, Illinois in 1830. In Greene Co, Illinois there were many families who had migrated from Robertson Co and other parts of Tn and Ky. George Gary Chapman and most of his and Charlotte Robey Chapman's children and their families. My ancestor lived very near Samual Tucker and wife Cynthia (George G. & Charlotte's daughter). The Chapman's sons Steward and George Chapman are buried in Greene Co, Ill beside them. Their son John had settled in Macoupin Co, Ill bordering Greene Co on the south. There is also a Wilson Chapman whom I believe to be George and Charlotte's son who moved from Ill to Washington Co, Arkansas by 1837. The reason I believe Wilson to be connected is because he and his wife named a daughter Charlotte (as did all of those Chapman siblings). Wilson's wife was known as Granny Chapman there in that part of Arkansas in her later years, living until 1900 (being abt 90 years old).
The only other Chapman that appears in Robertson Co, Tn before 1830 is James, his will is listed there between 1821 and 1825. This could be my ansestor ? Also I know most of those who migrated to that part of Tennessee were Revolutionary War Vets recieving land grants from the State of North Carolina. I have yet to find a Chapman who recieved one in western Tn.
If anyone is searching for Chapman info I may have it ? I have been up and down every Chapman family tree I can find settling in all the areas I have mentioned and most other parts of the U.S.
