Irene,

Your post caught my eye today. Just a couple of quick notes - First, you might try looking for McTeers in Blount County. It's the next county north of Monroe and the McTeers were very early settlers in the southern part of Blount County, not far from what became Monroe county.

Second, yes the courthouse burned but some records survived and some others have been reconstructed.

I'm also researching the Hicks family of Monroe County. There's bunches of them. <G> I've found that many, if not all, seem to come from basically one family, that of Zachariah Hicks. His eldest son Isaac came from NC to TN first, followed by Zachariah and possibly Zachariah's brother Elihu (relationship not confirmed yet). They were first in the southern part of Blount County and then later Monroe County.

I have a little more info - just send me an email. :)

Suzanne
