East TN Humphreys & Pattersons-Madisonville Athens
Posted by: Rebecca Date: January 12, 2002 at 23:11:49
  of 1003

I am seeking information about my Patterson ancestors who lived in the East Tennessee area around Sweetwater, Madisonville, Tellico Plains, and Athens. The counties they were located in were probably Monroe, McMinn, Meigs, Blount, and Loudon.

My great grandmother was named Eliza Jane Patterson, and she was probably born in the East Tennessee area around 1873. She married first a George Washington Humphreys and had four children: Thomas, Clay, Margaret, and William Humphreys. They lived in the Menlo, Georgia area. After George Humphreys died, she married his first cousin, Richard Anderson Humphreys abt. 1904. She had one son, Richard David Jackson Humphreys from her second marriage. The Humphreys family came from the same East Tennessee area.

She had three sisters and one brother: Ora Patterson (who may have married a Caruthers), Edna Patterson called "Aunt Ed," Lula Patterson (who married a James Lee), and Jeff Patterson (Jeffrey or Jefferson maybe).

Edna Patterson may have lived around Madisonville, TN in the 1940's.

Ora Patterson Caruthers may have lived around Sweetwater, TN in the 1940's.

Lula Patterson and her husband, James Lee, lived in the Menlo, Chattooga County, Georgia area and raised several children near the Alpine community, including Gordon, James, and Myrtle Lee.

Jeff Patterson raised cattle and had a good-sized operation in later years probably in the Madisonville and/or Maryville, TN area around the 1940's maybe.

This is about all of the information I know about my Patterson relatives. Eliza Jane, Ora, Edna, Lula, and Jeff had to have had parents living in the East Tennessee area in the 1870's and later. If anyone knows anything at all about this family, please email me or post a message. I would be sincerely grateful for any help at all! Thank you in advance!

Rebecca
