My name is Dave Jordan and I grew up in Bellevue, TN. I have lots of research on the Demoss family (who actually settled Bellevue). My Lineage includes from top down:
Louis DeMos (emigrated to Virginia about or before 1685)
Son Louis DeMos Jr. (d. 1743), Married Cathrine
Son James DeMoss(7th son b.Sept 6, 1728 in Hartford Co. Maryland; d. prior to 1775). Married Phoebe about 1748 - d. prior to 1775.
Son Thomas W. DeMoss b. in North Carolina in 1789, d. 1863. Married Elizabeth Shelton June 16, 1816 in Bellevue. Thomas & Elizabeth are burried in Bellevue. Elizabeth has a VERY interesting & completely detailed history.
Son Jesse Shelton DeMoss b. 1820 (may be 1828), d. 1895. Married Delilah Pack on May 3, 1842. She was b. 2/16/1821 and d. 6/30/1868.
Son Silas Christopher (Kit) DeMoss b. 1847 (This guy was funy. I have pictures, stories etc.). Married Josephine Davis. Kit is burried at the DeMoss Cemetary off River Road.
Son John F. DeMoss b. 3/28/1874, d.5/12/1949. This is my GGrandfather. He married Mary Lena (Reed) DeMoss b. 2/23/1877, d.3/11/1952.
Daughter Annie Bell (DeMoss) Jordan. This is my grandmother who married Samuel Guthrie Jordan Sr.
There is some information in a book titled West Nashville: Its People and Environs by Sarah Foster Kelley. Also a columnist, Verla Hodges for the Westview newspaper (local to Bellevue) wrote a series of articles about the demoss family in May 1979. You may want to visit the site of the reconstructed "Bellevue Mansion" where there is a sign that marks the settlement of Bellevue by James and Abrham Louis(I believe). The original log house was actually on the Harpeth river.
