Charles & Elizabeth Williams Help

I am at a road block looking for my grandfather Charles Williams (b. 1817 in TN) and his Wife Elizabeth Williams (b. 1819 in TN) they lived in Jackson county in the 1850's. I know approx. birth dates and I do know who their children are (William H, Lucretia, John T, Barbara E, Rufus, Milton McClure, Hetta, Varney, Nancy, Ordelia, Julia A, & Isabel). My line is through Milton McClure, but I cannot find any records of marriage or parents for Charles or Elizabeth. I would appreciate any help I can get. I also have a family story about that family line that says one of the grandfathers in the Williams line lived on the Tennessee/Kentucky border and would push all the items in his home to the opposite state whenever the state tax collector would come to his home so that he would pay less taxes. He did this with both state tax collectors until one day they came at the same time and caught him in a bind so that he had to pay his rightful taxes. Please help me find my family. I have researched as much as I can from where I live and I have not had a chance or the money to visit TN for further research so all help is greatly appreciated!!
