Origin of "Berryman" given name in Hurt lineage
Posted by: Stanley Paxton (ID *****5861) Date: December 29, 2012 at 13:18:09

William Berryman Hurt (1804-1887) was born in Spartanburg Co., SC., and lived in Tennessee, Kentucky, and Sangamon County, Illinois. To my knowledge, he was the first Hurt to sport the "Berryman" name. Joshua Hurt (1782-1831) is the father of William Berryman Hurt. Joshua was married to Sarah "Sallie" Davis and later, to Elizabeth Pebworth. The mother of William Berryman Hurt is Sarah Davis. Do we know the origin of the Berryman name?...that is, is anyone aware of the marriage of a Hurt with or into a Berryman family? To date, I find very little information about Sarah Davis.
