Here is info from the ancestry board - Carroll Co., TN, subject "Aden, Spellings"
Also note two children lived, as wards of the court, in the home of Gideon Cullen SPELLINGS and Malvina Aden Spellings in dist. 4 of Benton County; they were JAMES CALVIN VICTORY (b. 8/11/1864 in Benton County, TN) and WILLIAM LAYAFETTE VICTORY (b. abt. 1866 also in TN). According to an article in "Families and Histories of Benton Co., TN 1836-1986," pp. 299-300 at the Jackson, TN public library, James Calvin and William Lafayette were orphaned in about 1866 or 1867 (when James was about 2 yrs old) and they were told only that their father was JOHN VICTORY and their mother was PARTHENA GIPSON or GIBSON and that she was part Cherokee. It is not known if the boys were placed in the Spellings home by the court or by their parents. When James was about 16 (approx. 1880) the boys moved to Carroll Co. (districts 1 and 6) where they lived with a family named WARREN and then with a JASPER TAYLOR. James worked for Mr. Taylor, while William worked for a CAPT. NED WILLIAMS and during this time the boys were separated. The boys had a cousin, ANN BURKETT who was the wife of THOMAS BURKETT. Research has revealed that she is Maryann/Mary Ann MELTON, daughter of HIRAM MELTON (son of Jesse Melton and Celia Messer?) and MAHALA BOSWELL (dau. of Wm. and Sarah Boswell?) of the Buena Vista area in dist.18 of Carroll County (I believe there is a connection between the Billingsley and Boswell families). Another possible relative or in-law was a Mr. WHITE or Mr. WYATT.
