TAYLOR, CUMMINGS, HARTGROVE, HALE, STEWART
Posted by: Gerene Lord (ID *****3373) Date: August 23, 2012 at 09:25:54

Need some help, please.

I am looking for a marriage and or divorce for Stephen Taylor 1795-1864 Sullivan & Meigs Co TN.
He is supposed to have married an Anna CUMMINGS and the following was in the:
THE POLITICAL PROSPECT, Abingdon, VA, Saturday, April 17, 1813:
"Whereas my wife ANNA and myself have parted beds by mutual
consent, I think proper to give this notice, that all manner
of persons will cease to credit her on my account, as I am determined to pay no accounts of her contracting from this day." STEPHEN TAYLOR, March 30, 1813

Abingdon, VA borders Sullivan Co TN . I have also seen in early TN records where a CUMMINGS has married an Eleanor TAYLOR. Eleanor name has been use in my Taylor line for several generations.

I believe they had children, as my older children (unnamed)
have received their part. His children by his wife, Polly Hartgrove and childred by wife, Sarenah (Cyrene) Hale are mentioned in the will.

He was married in Mecklenburg Co NC in 1826 to Mary "Polly"
Hartgove who died in 1843 in Sullivan Co. TN. I have his will, War of 1812 Records, etc. In records he mention his older children.

Stephen Taylor was a doctor. We have been researching him for years and have not been able to connect him to parents or siblings.
