Ed. is for What?---Edward or Edmond Bowers

It is 2012 and the first post was written in 2006 by my friend since it is her gggrandfather Ed. we are searching. It just twist the mind that this one person can't be located in the 1870 or 1880 census anywhere. I do now think that this was a nickname or middle name and not a given name on the census. Since they lived so close to Tennessee he might have been in this state as Emma lived there with her family for a period of time.
I am asking any good tracker to help find this Ed. Bowers so we can put this mystery to rest. If I could dig him up I would to ask him myself. So now we are at this point in time six years later with still a brick wall. If the naming is correct as the old days then the first son of Ed and Emma Bowers is named Emmitt B. Bowers. This could be his father's name but that does not plug the bucket for us. I have been searching for the last two years and nothing even close. I am thinking maybe the aliens dropped him here. As a long time genealogist, I do know that it might take years to find him but yet I am putting my feelers out to every Bowers researcher to help us find him. We do not have Ed. Bowers birth other than the Death Certificate Birth Date which is August 1862 but saying that his headstone states August 1865. The Death Certificate informant was his father-in-law, G. W. Roberts. It was stated through family information that Emmitt (Ed. and Emma's Son) that Ed was always saying his family owned property in North Carolina but no documentation to prove this just word of mouth. If you can help please email: or with any information on the secretive ED. Bowers. It does state on one census as Edmon and 1900 and Edward. Thanks in advance for any help anyone can provide in hunting down this mysterious ED BOWERS.
