Jones family of Montgomery & Stanly County, North Carolina
Hi Tenn. Researchers, I am trying to find out where my Jones family intermarried with the Kirk family of Montgomery County in the late 1700's or early 1800's. FYI, Stanly County was created from Montgomery County in 1841 so the item that I have listed from the North Carolina State Archives has it listed under Stanly County. I am hoping to shed some new light on my Jones family since I have hit so many brick walls! Below is what I have that was recorded by a researcher in 1979 at the state archives:
"(2:125) This indenture made this the 13th day of May...1843 Between William Jones & Mary Jones his wife of the County of Stanly....and Alexander Kirk & Mark Jones both of the county...aforesaid Witnessed the said Wm & Mary Jones for ...the sum of fifty dollars...paid by Alexr. Kirk and Mark Jones...hath...sold... a certain tract of land Willed to William Jones by his father Charles Jones said tract of land consisting of thirty five acres...bounded on the North and West by Mark Jones on the South by Alexander Kirk....this 15th day of May 1843...Witness: A.W. Jones, P. Kirk"
ok, Charles Jones was my ggg grandfather. He resigned in 1802 as Colonel of the NC Montgomery County Militia with a letter to the North Carolina General Assembly. I have a copy of the letter from the archives. Charles Jones son, William Jones, is my gg grandfather. Mark Jones is a brother to William Jones. A.W. Jones, is Allen W. Jones and he is a son of William Jones. William Jones's son, Baldwin Henderson Jones, brother to Allen W. Jones, is my great grandfather. I have been reseaching this family for 10 years now and hit so many brick walls but what i do have, I do have sources and validation from the NC Archives. Several of my Charles Jones family went west in the early 1800's. They settled in Tennessee but not been able to establish where. Eventually some showed up in Shelby County, Illinois. All of this has been confirmed. I am hoping that maybe one of you dedicated KIRK researchers that has some brick walls may be the other side of my brick wall! If you are a researcher of the Kirks from this area, Please contact me if you have concrete info so maybe we can get this puzzle figured out. I wish I had accessed to the old Stanly County genealogical society's publications. I feel that maybe something has been published in there about the Kirk family. You may contact me directly at [email protected]. Thank you so much and God Bless.
