Suddenly I may be a Lawson descendant. Can someone help me please?
Just found out that my Silas L. Manes might have been a Lawson. If he left at age 12 or so, that would be 1823 or so meaning he should have appeared in some Manes family in the 1830 census. In the 1840 census, he appears as Silas L. Manes. Now I am totally confused. Is there somewhere I can find out more about this?
I am asking all Lawsons for help. This is such a shock to me. His sons all fought for the North in the CW so maybe that is why. I won't know what Lawson or Manes family he belonged to. Is it perhaps that he could have been adopted or at least there was a guardianship for him from some Manes taking care of him till he was grown?
I was asking for his burial site and date of death in Jasper Co, MO last place he was in the 1880 census. Not there in 1900 census, but his second wife Mariah is living with her grandchildren.
A researcher for Random Acts of Kindness found this:
name: Silas L Manes
gender: Male
birth: ABT 1811
Tennessee
Marriages (1)
spouse: Freelove (Lovey)
Show children (7)
Notes
Cyrus is said to have run away from his home and family at an early age (about 12) because he wouldn't "Drive Slaves". Went to live with a Manes Family and changed his last name from Lawson to Manes
