We are seeking any info about the Bettis and Webb families on the 1850 federal census for the 11th Civil District of Shelby Co TN (Memphis area) - pg 193B:
#1629 John B. Bettis, 36, Sally Bettis, 20, James Bettis,1m (We believe John to be my gg-grandfather with his first wife Sarah Webb and their eldest child.)
#1628 (Are these Sarah Webb Bettis's parents and siblings?) Elijah Webb, 52, Mary Webb, 50, and children ages 11 to 16. Mary may be Mary Fields, d/o James Fields and Sarah Hinson.
Our John B. Bettis is shown variously as being born in SC or AL, and with varying ages that would make his birthdate anytime from about 1813 to 1823. He and Sarah had several children. He and his second wife, after Sarah passed away, had a son as well - my dad's grandfather. We believe John to be connected to the Bettis group who apparently went from the Carolinas to AL (including Clarke Co) and on to TN and then AR. Some of the family may have gone directly from NC/SC to TN.
