Please contact Gillespie/Mac/McPherson DNA Project Administrator Connie McKenzie at lairdkinna@yahoo.com if you are interested in participating in this DNA project.

June 8, 2006 -- 13 separate DNA lines have been established in this project. Participants are falling into two haplogroups -- R1b1 which is the most common in European populations, and I which indicates an ancient ancestor in Northwestern Europe and common with Viking populations. Participants in one haplogroup cannot be related to participants in another haplogroup.

Results from 21 DNA test kits are available. Within those 21 kits, four GILLESPIE DNA groups (2 in haplogroup I and 2 in haplogroup R1b1) and six additional GILLESPIE DNA lines (all in R1b1) have been identified, establishing 10 separate GILLESPIE DNA lines.

There are three MAC/MCPHERSONS in the project, all are in haplogroup R1b1. These participants are not a match to each other or to GILLESPIE participants, therefore establishing 3 separate MAC/MCPHERSON lines.

One R1b1 GILLESPIE has found significant matches within the Clan Campbell DNA Project. Another R1b1 GILLESPIE has found significant matches within the Meek DNA Project. One McPherson line has found significant matches within the McNeil DNA Project. These individuals have not matched other Gillespies and their matches outside their own surnames indicate deep ancestry - presurname matches.
