Hi LuAnn
I Don't have anything pertaining to Hugh, but what I have may help .
Most the early Families of the Nashville area originly came from Pa. We Carruthers are one of them.
A john Carnahan b.1744Pa, m.1765 Westmoreland Pa,to Rebecca Carruthers, they remained in Pa until John's death in 1825.
The Carnahan's aswell as Carruthers resided in Cumberland Co,Pa. I Suspect Hugh is John's brother.
The Carnahan's do fall in my Family lines, but only have recorded the ones married to my surname,and the surnames from which I decend. This is a list of the surnames of TN in my tree in which Carnahan are married in.
Buchanan, Carothers, Gillesie, Graham, McClellan, McEwen, Wilson, Williamson. There are many more of the allied families that Carahan is mensioned, and part of.
Tennessee:
Tennessee is what I've titled the 3rd reunion, as we arrived in the new land,none of us were alone, there were siblings and cousins with just about everybody.
Exsample;
John Carnahan b.1744 I suspect was born in Ireland, I suspect his family arrived with John Carruthers family, whom arrived in Pa in the late 1750, this Carruthers is a distant cousin line to my own, my Carruthers were in Pa, decades before this cousin arrived, John Carruthers half brothers arrived almost a decade before their eldest brothers. For my John Carruthers, he was found alone in Pa, his brothers were found in Maryland,Augusta Va, and Mecklinburg Co, NC. these dates are 1740 , and their sister is found righ along side of them.
My ancestors Williamson , Bell, Buchanan, and Caruthers settled in Davidson Co TN in the late 1760's and 1770's early . Buchanan - a set of seven brothers , arrived in Pa 1704, four of brothers moved south into Augusta, and Washington Co,Va. , Williamson , childern of Mike Williamson of Pa -had two sons that moved into Davidson/Williamson Co,TN in 1768 .
The point I'm tring to make is , follow all the Carnahan's , yes there are subdivisions of the family, but it all comes together. Pa,Va,and NC are the states in which filled TN, and mostly the middle valley .
I can tell you I have read research containing the Carnahan's in Charlotte NC, Cumberland Pa, and TN it's self.
Hope this helps.
TC
