Searching for the parents of my ggrandfather, George Washington Rutherford/Grimes. He was born Jul 1872 in Kentucky, married Sarah Jane Packett Graves 12 Nov 1892 in Union County, Tennessee, and had these children:
Melinda J. (Josie)
Dora M.
Edna Minerva Lucinda (who later legally changed her name to Edna Lula)
William Arler
Merthalela
John Samuel (my grandfather, b. 5 Jan 1905, Union County, Tenn.)
George also had a daughter by a woman surname McCarty. It's said the daughter moved to Cincinnatti.
George called himself George Grimes, but his marriage certificate says George W. Rutherford and the 1900 Union County, Tennessee census calls him George Retherford. My grandpa John Samuel called himself John Rutherford.
Because George flipped his name from Rutherford to Grimes and back, I believe he was descended from Elijah Rutherford and Nancy Robinson. I also have a cousin, George's granddaughter, who remembers her aunt Lucinda Rutherford Gilbert (daughter of Elijah and Nancy), going to visit George and calling him the "baby of the family". Anyone know of him?
