Cantrell Ancestry Search, Can You Help Me?
My mother was a Cantrell. Her father was Marshal Abraham Cantrell; her mother was Mary Ann Williams. I have no other information on her grandparents' names.
There names were listed on the 1920 DeKalb County, Tennessee Census, District D14, House 223; at that time their ages were 40 and 39 respectively. This census shows they were married at ages 19 and 18.
Under Tennessee Marriages, 1851-1900 a listing for Marshall Cantrell and Mary Williams is shown. . .date of marriage December 24, 1899, DeKalb, TN.
My mother was Cleo Mae Cantrell, born August 27, 1907, in Indian Territory (Oklahoma), however she moved to TN at the age of 3 and remained there until 1937 when she and my father, Andrew Jackson Judd, moved with their 5 children to California (2 more children were born in CA; my brother, Marion, and myself).
From what I can find, it would appear her family lived in TN, moved to OK for a short period of time, then returned to TN. There were 9 children born to this couple, most of them appear to have been born in Tennessee.
My grandfather, Marshall Abraham Cantrell lived in McMinnville, TN when my family went to visit him in the summer of 1946. He died within weeks of our visit.
My grandmother remained in McMinnville after he died, living with her youngest daughter, Mildred Cantrell Cope, and her husband Arbis Cope.
I would appreciate ANYTHING you may be able to find that would point me in some direction since I am a real "newbie" to genealogy, but want very much to discover my mother's ancestry.
Thank you for your assistance. Toni (my given name is actually Clara Yvonne (Judd) Johnson, but everyone calls me Toni.
