John Samuel McFarland - KY/TN(?) to MO

My gr grandfather was John Samuel McFarland born in either Tennessee or Kentucky, born abt. 1855, died 1887 in Howell Co, MO. He married my gr grandmother Mary Leona Josephine Forrest 25-July-1880 in Howell Co, MO. She was the daughter of Hezekiah Forrest, b. 3-June-1817 in Benton Co, TN. I haven't been able to find any information on John Samuel. His death seems to be a mystery and no one in the family has any information about him. Would appreciate any help.
