Reuben Roberts - NC and Tenn
I am seeking information about the daughter of Reuben Roberts from NC and Tennessee. Information I have is that Reuben served in the Revolutionary War seven years from 1776 to 1782. About this time, Reuben’s wife died and he married Mary Millie Asher in 1785. His daughter Sarah married George W. Saunders about the same time. George W. Saunders is recorded in the 1790 Census with a wife and one male child in Chatham Co. N.C. This is only a few miles from Hillsboro N.C. in Orange Co., the home of Sarah’s father Reuben Roberts.
About 1797, Reuben gathered his adult children and his new family, including Sarah and George, and moved to Rock Island, in White Co., Tennessee. Reuben settled in the small community of Doyle and George settled nearby in Rock Island.
George W. and family moved to Madison Co., Alabama sometime around 1822-23 and then, about 1829, to Lowndes Co., Mississippi near present day Steens, northeast of Columbus, MS. Reuben remained in Tenneesee where he died and is buried.
I also have information that suggests that perhaps Sarah was adopted by Reuben and maybe was his niece.
I have been unable to find a record of Sarah being the daughter of Reuben though I have seen amessage from a researcher that listed a daughter named Sarah. I have also seen information that says Reuben was married to Emily Eschere before his marriage to Mary Millie Asher. I have seen numerous records of the marriage of Reuben to Mary Millie Asher, with variable spelling of her last name, and their 12 children, none of whom is named Sarah.
Can anyone provide information that would verify that Reuben had a daughter named Sarah from a first marriage earlier than that to Mary Asher or any information about an adoption?
Thanks for any information.
