Re: Pressmans Home-The books with the list of cemeteries etc. I know very little about Pressmans Home. A man named Javan, Javane, Jay V. BROOKS was a printer pressman for Gaut Ogden in Knoxville TN, Newman's and one other. I have been able to locate him on th 1900 and 1910 Knox Co Census living with his father and step-mother, father was Anson Brooks, bur. New Gray Cem. I went through the Knox City Directories. Everything stops in 1910. I have had difficulty finding information from anyone.
J. Brooks was the father of my father and my father never knew him (he was a baby). Our father's mother would not talk. In fact no one would talk. I think this man my grandfather? was probably very ill. The history in the pension file indicated most of their children were not well and died very young. My father died when I was in my teens.
The strange part" J. Brooks father lived in Knoxville was a retired Union veteran, lived in Anderson Co TN with his first wife; for a few years (census) Coal Creek. by 1900 they were in Knoxville. Anson Brooks father of Javan ran a "second hand store" (city directories) which was on Central Ave, Knox.Lived on a street named Tulip? In Knoxville.Anson did not die until 1920 or 22 (writing from memory)records from New Gray. I do not understand why Anson Brooks or Jay V. Brooks' half brothers and sisters made no attempt to know my father and Anson's grandson by his first marriage? Javan/Jay V Brooks always lived at home with his father and family on Tulip Ave?
I went to New Gray thinking I would find Javan (I know about the fire at New Gray). Anson Brooks had more than a few children I think the living ones were all half bro. & sisters to Javan);Anson's second wife was a Galyon. If interested I have a copy of the marriage records. The pension papers of Anson Brooks. Javan, Jay V. is mention once but I believe by then Anson may have been confused, it appears to state that "Javanne Brooks died 1912" nothing else.
The books with the cemetery listings etc, are they still available?
We knew one BROOKS, our father, William Lawrence Brooks born in Knoxville, TN. 1908 was the only Brooks from that family we know anything about. We just want to know about him.
Would appreciate help.
