Genealogy doesn't have to stop cold when we run out of Birth certificates, if it did, we would all be out of luck.The 1900 census is a very good one if you know the parent's names. 1910 and 1920 are also very good (and available.) A good approach is to find death information, (wills, probate, obituary notices, etc.) which, since it occurred more recently than birth, is much more likely to include helpful hints to the earlier stuff. Marriage records are also more available than birth records, and can be helpful, especially if you get to know everyone in your county of your surname.
