I recently received an email from Judy Bickers who had a copy of the 1860 census for Mcnairy county. It showed my gggrandfather Beacum Britt and his 2nd wife Debra Wallace Britt his age was 56 hers 29. Also shown was my ggrandfather Hans Britt age 7..
I remember him spending the night with my family before he died in 1941 I was 6 yrs old. He would tell of his dad Beacum taking him to Shiloh after the battle. There was many people there, he said a man reached for a boot sticking out of the trench grave and a human foot was still inside it. The man threw it across the field.
I know Beacum moved his family to Lexington Tn at some point. I have heard he was a landowner in Mcnairy county but, I have no evidence of this. I DO know most all the Britt's were Union sympathizers. Beacum named one of his sons Abraham Lincoln Britt. We knew him as Uncle Linc.
I would appreciate any info on the Britt famly in Mcnairy county.
My e-mail is firstname.lastname@example.org
Thanks, Myke Britt
